Initial psychiatrist-narcologist consultation
The initial psychiatrist-narcologist consultation is a preliminary assessment of the patient’s mental health, with a focus on identifying psychiatric disorders and issues related to the use of alcohol, psychoactive substances, or other potentially addictive medications or substances. During the consultation, the specialist evaluates the patient’s medical, behavioral, and social history in order to establish a preliminary diagnosis and recommend an appropriate treatment or intervention plan.
Indications
- Suspected psychiatric disorders
- Problematic use of alcohol or psychoactive substances
- Dependence on medications or other substances
- Behavioral disorders associated with substance use
- Need for specialized psychiatric evaluation
Procedure
The consultation is conducted as a confidential dialogue with the psychiatrist-narcologist. The patient’s mental state, substance use history, possible withdrawal episodes, and impact on daily functioning are assessed. If necessary, additional investigations, treatment, or a monitoring program may be recommended.
Preparation:
The patient is asked to provide relevant medical documents, previously prescribed treatments, and a list of current medications. It is essential to provide honest information about alcohol, psychoactive substances, or medications with addictive potential, including duration, frequency, approximate quantities, and any previous withdrawal episodes or treatments. If available, recent test results and previous medical reports are also recommended.
