Tonsillar lacunar lavage is a medical procedure aimed at cleansing the tonsillar crypts of caseous material, purulent content, and pathological deposits using specialized solutions and instruments.
The procedure is used in chronic inflammatory diseases of the tonsils and helps reduce bacterial load, decrease inflammation, and improve the condition of the oropharynx.
Tonsillar lavage is performed by a physician within the consultation, after examination and assessment of the oropharynx and tonsils.
Indications
- chronic tonsillitis;
- presence of caseous plugs in tonsillar crypts;
- recurrent tonsillitis/angina;
- halitosis of tonsillar origin;
- discomfort or foreign body sensation in the throat;
- chronic inflammation of the palatine tonsils;

Procedure
The physician examines the oropharynx and evaluates the condition of the palatine tonsils.
Lacunar irrigation is performed using special cannulas and antiseptic solutions, allowing mechanical and medicinal cleansing of pathological content from the tonsils.
After the procedure, if necessary, the condition of the tonsils is reassessed and further treatment recommendations are provided.
Contraindications
- acute infections with high fever;
- acute purulent tonsillitis;
- severe gag reflex preventing the procedure;
- lesions or ulcers of the oropharyngeal mucosa;
- individual intolerance to the solutions used;
- conditions requiring urgent ENT intervention.

No specific recovery is usually required.
