Tick extraction

350.00 MDL

Tick removal is a medical procedure for extracting a tick attached to the patient’s skin, performed in a clinical setting. The procedure aims to reduce the risk of tick-borne infections, including Lyme disease (tick-borne borreliosis) and other transmissible diseases, as well as to prevent complications associated with improper removal of the parasite.

Indications

  • detection of an attached tick on the skin
  • confirmed tick bite
  • redness, itching, or local reaction at the bite site
  • suspected prolonged attachment of the tick
  • presentation after exposure to nature in tick-endemic regions

Procedure

The procedure is performed by a medical specialist using sterile instruments. The tick is grasped as close to the skin as possible and removed with a smooth motion without compressing its body. After extraction, the bite area is disinfected. If necessary, the removed tick may be sent for laboratory testing to identify infectious agents.

Recovery / restrictions

After the procedure, monitoring of the skin and general condition is recommended for 2–4 weeks. Mild redness or a small induration may appear at the bite site, which usually resolves spontaneously. The patient should avoid scratching the area and carefully monitor for signs of infection. In case of fever, expanding redness, weakness, or other warning symptoms, medical consultation is required.

Benefits

  • fast and safe tick removal
  • reduced risk of infectious complications
  • minimal tissue trauma
  • possibility of laboratory testing of the tick
  • performed in sterile conditions by medical staff
