HOMA2 Index — Insulin Resistance, Insulin Sensitivity and Pancreatic β-Cell Function

370.00 MDL

The HOMA2 (Homeostatic Model Assessment 2) index is a calculated laboratory parameter used for a comprehensive evaluation of carbohydrate metabolism. It allows the assessment of insulin resistance, tissue insulin sensitivity, and pancreatic β-cell function responsible for insulin secretion. Unlike the classical HOMA-IR model, HOMA2 accounts for the non-linear relationship between glucose and insulin, providing a more accurate representation of metabolic status.

Indications

  • suspected insulin resistance
  • metabolic syndrome
  • overweight or obesity
  • carbohydrate metabolism disorders
  • prediabetic states
  • elevated blood glucose or insulin levels
  • assessment of type 2 diabetes risk
  • comprehensive evaluation of insulin sensitivity and β-cell function

Procedure

The HOMA2 index is calculated from a fasting venous blood sample with measurement of glucose and insulin levels. The obtained values are processed using a specialized mathematical model, and the laboratory automatically generates indicators reflecting insulin resistance, insulin sensitivity, and β-cell function. No additional actions are required from the patient.

IMPORTANT!

It is crucial to remember that the information provided in this section is not intended for self-diagnosis or self-treatment. If you experience any pain or an exacerbation of a condition, it is essential to consult a healthcare professional for diagnostic testing and appropriate treatment. Only a qualified specialist can make an accurate diagnosis and determine the appropriate treatment. To obtain the most accurate and consistent evaluation of test results, it is recommended to have them performed at the same laboratory. This is because different laboratories may use varying methods and units of measurement for similar tests.

Preparation:

  • the test must be performed strictly fasting (8–12 hours without food)
  • only plain water is allowed in the morning before sampling
  • 24 hours before the test it is recommended to avoid overeating, avoid alcohol consumption, and avoid intense physical activity
  • after medical consultation, temporary discontinuation of medications affecting glucose and insulin levels may be required
