Antiphospholipid Profile - APS basic
The Basic antiphospholipid profile (APS) is a set of laboratory tests designed to detect autoantibodies associated with blood clotting disorders and increased risk of thrombosis. It is used for the diagnosis of antiphospholipid syndrome and evaluation of immune-related hemostatic disorders.
Indications
- suspicion of antiphospholipid syndrome
- venous or arterial thrombosis
- recurrent pregnancy loss or pregnancy complications
- unexplained thrombophilia
- autoimmune diseases (including SLE)
Profile components
- Anticorpi anti-β2-glicoproteina I IgG - marker of autoimmune activity associated with increased risk of thrombosis and pregnancy complications
- Anticorpi anti-β2-glicoproteina I IgM - early immune response marker that may indicate active autoimmune process
- Anticorpi anti-cardiolipină IgG - key diagnostic marker of antiphospholipid syndrome associated with thrombosis and obstetric complications
- Anticorpi anti-cardiolipină IgM - marker of early or active immune response, used in the comprehensive evaluation of APS
Procedure
Venous blood is collected under standard laboratory conditions. No special preparation is usually required unless additional tests are ordered.
Preparation:
- blood sampling is preferably done fasting or after a light fasting period
- avoid intense physical activity 24 hours before testing
- avoid testing during acute infections or significant inflammation
- anticoagulant or immunomodulatory therapy should only be adjusted according to medical advice
