The Blood Biochemistry Profile – Basic is a panel of essential biochemical tests designed to assess the function of major organs and the body's overall metabolic status.

It provides valuable information about liver, kidney, and pancreatic function, carbohydrate, protein, and lipid metabolism, as well as the presence of inflammation. This profile is suitable for routine health screening and as an initial laboratory assessment for a wide range of clinical conditions.

Key indicators of overall health

  • Serum Glucose — the primary indicator of carbohydrate metabolism; used to detect abnormalities in glucose metabolism and assess the risk of diabetes mellitus
  • Alanine Aminotransferase (ALT) — a liver enzyme; elevated levels may indicate liver cell injury
  • Aspartate Aminotransferase (AST) — an enzyme found in the liver, heart, and skeletal muscles; helps evaluate damage to these tissues
  • Serum Creatinine — reflects kidney function and the kidneys' ability to filter blood
  • Total Bilirubin — evaluates bilirubin metabolism as well as liver and biliary tract function
  • Urea — an indicator of protein metabolism and kidney function
  • C-Reactive Protein (CRP) — a sensitive marker of inflammation in the body
  • Total Cholesterol — reflects lipid metabolism and is used to assess cardiovascular risk
  • Gamma-Glutamyl Transferase (GGT) — an enzyme sensitive to liver and biliary tract disorders
  • Total Protein — reflects protein metabolism, nutritional status, and the liver's protein synthesis function
  • Alkaline Phosphatase (ALP) — helps evaluate the liver, biliary tract, and bone metabolism
  • Total Alpha-Amylase — an enzyme involved in carbohydrate digestion; used to assess pancreatic and salivary gland function
  • Lipase — the primary pancreatic enzyme responsible for fat digestion and an important marker of pancreatic function

Indications

  • routine preventive health screening and annual health assessments
  • evaluation of liver, kidney, and pancreatic function
  • assessment of carbohydrate, protein, and lipid metabolism
  • chronic fatigue, weakness, or reduced physical performance
  • abdominal pain or discomfort
  • overweight individuals or those with risk factors for diabetes mellitus and cardiovascular disease
  • monitoring patients with chronic diseases
  • monitoring treatment effectiveness, as recommended by a physician

Procedure

A blood sample is collected from a vein using standard venipuncture. The procedure takes only a few minutes and is well tolerated by most patients.

The sample is analyzed according to the tests included in the profile.

Preparation:

  • fast for 8–12 hours before blood collection (water is allowed)
  • drink plain water as usual
  • avoid alcohol for 24 hours before testing
  • avoid strenuous physical activity on the day before testing
