Preparation:
In general, it is not necessary to fast if the procedure is performed under local anesthesia. If general anesthesia is a possibility, you will be told not to consume food or liquids for 6–8 hours beforehand. Gently wash the area around the wound (if possible) with soap and water, avoiding direct contact with the wound. Do not apply creams, powders, alcohol or other substances to the wound before presenting to the doctor. Keep the area covered with a clean dressing until the procedure. Bring with you the medical documents, the vaccination record (to check the anti-tetanus vaccine) and inform the doctor about: the treatments followed, possible drug allergies, chronic diseases (diabetes, hypertension, coagulation disorders, etc. ). Do not stop current treatments without your doctor's advice. If you are taking anticoagulants (eg Aspirin, Thrombostop, Warfarin), inform your doctor before the procedure.
