Parasitological prophylactic package (kids)
The parasitological preventive package for children is a set of laboratory tests designed to detect the most common parasitic infections, which may develop with mild or non-specific symptoms. It allows the assessment of helminth infections, protozoan infections, and early detection of intestinal parasitic diseases.
Medical purpose and indications
- Screening for parasitic infections in children
- Gastrointestinal symptoms (abdominal pain, bloating, unstable bowel movements)
- Reduced appetite, fatigue, weakness
- Unexplained allergic manifestations
- Anal itching, especially at night
- Frequent respiratory or general infections
- Attendance in group settings (kindergarten, school)
- Preventive screening in endemic areas or suspected exposure
Serological helminth testing
Antibodies to Toxocara canis, IgG – indicate immune response to toxocariasis.
Antibodies to Ascaris lumbricoides, IgG – indicate exposure or infection with roundworms.
Antibodies to Opisthorchis felineus, IgG – used for diagnosis of opisthorchiasis affecting liver and bile ducts.
Protozoan testing
Antibodies to Giardia lamblia, IgA/M/G – detect giardiasis, a protozoan infection affecting the small intestine and digestion.
Parasitological examination
Perianal swab for enterobiasis detects Enterobius vermicularis (pinworms), one of the most common intestinal parasites in children.
Influencing factors and limitations
- Antibodies may persist after past infection
- Early stages may show low serological levels
- Antiparasitic treatment may affect results
- Improper sample collection reduces accuracy
Procedure
- Venous blood sampling
- Morning perianal swab before hygiene
- Safe and minimally invasive procedures for children
Advantages
- Comprehensive screening for common parasitic infections
- Detection of hidden or chronic infections
- Suitable for preventive care
- Fast and reliable diagnostics
Laboratory report
Results include interpretation of immunological parameters.
If needed, the physician may recommend additional testing.
