Respiratory allergy screening
Respiratory allergy screening is a laboratory investigation aimed at detecting increased sensitivity of the body to inhaled allergens (plant pollen, household dust, mites, animal fur, mold, etc.). It helps identify allergic reactions and serves as the first step in diagnosis. The package also includes tests to assess digestive system function (stool analysis/coprogram), because digestive disorders and hidden food intolerances can amplify allergic reactions and affect the immune system. This allows the doctor to get a complete evaluation of the patient’s condition and provide personalized recommendations.
Indications
- frequent runny or congested nose
- sneezing, itching in the nose or eyes
- tearing
- prolonged cough without a clear cause
- suspected allergic rhinitis or bronchial asthma
- seasonal symptoms (spring/autumn)
- family history of allergies
Procedure / Duration
The test includes several analyses: venous blood sampling for complete blood count, total IgE, and erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), as well as sampling for stool analysis (coprogram) and rhinocytogram. Laboratory testing of a panel of 16 inhaled allergens is also performed. The overall procedure takes 5–10 minutes, and results are usually ready within a few days.
Contraindications
There are no absolute contraindications. Relative: acute infectious diseases, severe general condition (at the discretion of the doctor).
Rehabilitation / Restrictions
Not required. After the tests, the patient can immediately return to normal activities.
Advantages
- safe and non-invasive method
- no direct contact with allergens (unlike skin tests)
- suitable for children and adults
- can be performed during allergy exacerbation
- highly informative for primary screening
