Contraindications

Pregnancy - mammography is generally not performed during pregnancy, except when medically necessary.
Acute inflammatory processes or significant breast tenderness may be a reason to postpone the examination, as recommended by a physician.
Inability to maintain the required position during mammography may be a limitation to performing the examination.

Procedure

The assessment includes digital mammography of both breasts, breast ultrasound and a consultation with a breast specialist.

Based on the results of the examinations, the physician assesses the condition of the breasts and, if necessary, determines the appropriate next steps for further investigation or monitoring.

Limitations

Mammography and ultrasound complement each other, but neither method can detect all breast changes.

Preparation

No special preparation is required for breast ultrasound or the breast specialist consultation.

For mammography, it is recommended to:

if possible, schedule the examination during the first half of the menstrual cycle, when the breasts are less sensitive;
avoid applying deodorant, talcum powder, creams or other cosmetic products to the breast and underarm areas on the day of the examination;
wear clothing that can be easily removed from the upper body before the examination;
inform the physician before the examination about pregnancy or possible pregnancy, breastfeeding, breast implants and any previously diagnosed breast conditions.

In case of pregnancy, suspected pregnancy or breastfeeding, consult a physician before scheduling mammography.
