Deamidated gliadin peptide (DGP) antibodies, IgA

440.00 MDL

This test detects IgA antibodies against deamidated gliadin peptides (DGP) and is used as a serological marker in the evaluation of celiac disease.

Anti-DGP antibodies may be present in people with celiac disease and can contribute to the serological assessment of patients with symptoms or risk factors suggestive of the condition.

Test results should be interpreted together with the patient’s symptoms, medical history and, when indicated, other serological tests and gastroenterological investigations.

Indications

  • Suspected celiac disease
  • Chronic or recurrent diarrhea without a clear cause
  • Persistent bloating, abdominal pain or other digestive symptoms
  • Unexplained weight loss
  • Iron-deficiency anemia or unexplained iron deficiency
  • Signs or symptoms suggestive of malabsorption
  • Unexplained nutritional deficiencies
  • Additional monitoring of patients with celiac disease, as recommended by a physician
  • Presence of risk factors for celiac disease, as recommended by a physician

Procedure

The test requires a venous blood sample.

Blood is usually collected from a vein in the elbow area and takes a few minutes.

Limitations

The test result cannot independently confirm or exclude celiac disease.

The result should be interpreted in the clinical context and, when necessary, together with other serological and gastroenterological investigations.

An important consideration is selective IgA deficiency: in patients with IgA deficiency, tests based on IgA antibodies may produce false-negative results. Therefore, measurement of total IgA and/or the use of IgG-based serological markers may be recommended by a physician.

For an accurate serological evaluation of celiac disease, the patient should generally be consuming gluten before testing. Starting a gluten-free diet before the diagnostic evaluation may affect the test results.
